Lewis becomes more resonsible after a week of being with Miss Fithchlow, because he was learning how to be more independent. He took care of himself alone at the park and also took it upon himself to do his homework and do well in school to go to the park.
Lewis became responsible because Miss Fitchlow let him go to the park by himself. There he met Mr. Madruga. It was Mr. Madruga who made him responsible.
I don't think it as much Miss Fitchlow as Mr.Madruga. If it were Miss Fitchlow I think it would be because she was different from other people like Lewis so she understood how to help him.
Lewis grows more responsible after a week with Miss Fitchlow, because she doesn't pay much attention to him so he becomes kind of independent. Also Lewis was talking with Mr. Madruga who is an adult and you can tell that Mr Madruga is very responsible. I agree with Justin.
I think that lewis grows more responsible because she teaches him to. She spends a lot of time talking with him that he learns more things and better skills.

I agree with Lindsey. Since Miss Fitchlow didn't care of what Lewis did, Lewis took advantage of her and went to the park alone. He also had to become more responsible by making breakfast by himself and finish his homework without help for the same reason. He also becomes more independent and learns how to socialize. On the other hand, Mr. Madruga is like Lewis' personal tutor and they look for caves as a positive reinforcement. Overall, Lewis has gained responsibility and independence due to Miss Fitchlow and Mr. Madruga.
