How did Stanley’s parent’s belief in the court system affect Stanley?

  1. Stanley's parents thought that if Stanley just told the truth, the court would believe and forgive him. Sadly, they were wrong. It affected Stanley because he was sent to Camp Green Lake. Had his parents known more about the court system, he might never have gone to camp.

In the book it said that Stanley's family was to poor to hire a lawyer. As a matter of fact, we had a conversation that relates to this in Mrs. Ives class. Mrs. Ives said that if you were in court, and you didn't have enough money to get a lawyer, that the money from our taxes would pay to get you some lawyer. I just thought that this was interesting.

  2. I agree with Patrick. Since Stanley's parents did not have enough money to hire a lawyer, they just told him to tell the truth. That obviously didn't work therefore giving him a choice between jail and Camp Green Lake. Stanley chose Camp Green Lake in hopes of a luscious forest. He was wrong. I can tell his parents do not care of what happens to their son by not even defending him of his false crime. They also do not know how the court system works which puts them in a deeper hole. If Stanley had proactive parents, he could have had a chance at being proved innocent.

  3. i agree with both Riley and "THE BEAST", Stanley's parents didn't have enough money to hire a lawyer so they just told Stanley to tell the truth. That didn't work :(. He had a choice of either jail and Camp Green Lake in hope of a Lake but he was wrong too. Stanley's parents lack of knowledge of their own court system could have proven Stanley innocent, but they didn't know a thing. Although Stanley didn't look like he cared about being blamed for stealing shoes, he would probably have liked support in court from his parents.

  4. Patrick thats an interesting fact it just shows that Stanleys parents dont know muck about the court system. I believe they thought normal situations for smaller things worked in court to for example with little kids. "Did you steal his toy?" "no I didnt" "Are you telling the truth?" "Yes" "O.K" adult says to other kid "He didnt steal your toy". Also Stanleys parents didnt even go to court! do they even care about him? Stanley was effected by his parents choices by being sent to Camp Green Lake and having to dig holes.

  5. I defidently agree with Patrick it is Stanley's parent's fault he's in court, but on the other hand with all the evidence against him it may not have mattered.

  6. I agree with everyone. if stanley's parents really believed in him, he wouln't be at Camp Green Lake. Even if they couldn't afford a good one, his parents still could've gotten some kind of lawyer. I also agree with matt because the evidence may not have even mattered!

  7. Stanley's parents belief in the court system affected Stanley, because with a lawyer Stanley could have won the case and not had to go to Camp Green Lake. Stanley's parents don't really believe in him if they did then Stanley might have fought a little bit harder. So I agree with everyone.

  8. I also agree with Patrick that it is his parents' fault that he lost in court. If they would've just gotten a lawyer, he might have made it. His parents told him that if he told the truth, he would make it, but almost every person that comes to court is"innocent". If Stanley is innocent also, the court just thinks, "thats what they all say", even though he IS innocent.
