  1. Hello fellow classmates!!!!! I don't know about you, but I absolutely LOVE my book. I am sort- of unhappy to say that I am almost finished with it, but excited that there is a second book!!! (The third one is not out yet.):( Anyway, it is called The Looking Glass Wars and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an adventurous, exciting, twisted version of Alice In Wonderland. (I would recommend it anyway). So, I'm on part three of the first book, and I just cant wait to see what happens next. So far, Alyss's evil Aunt Redd snuck in to the royal birthday of Princess Alyss Heart of Wonderland and kills almost everyone there. Thankfully, the royal bodyguard, Hatter Madigan, saved Alyss, and they escaped through the " Pool of Tears" and into the real world. Thirteen years later, Hatter finds Alyss, and Dodge (Alyss's old friend) comes to take her back to what is now the ruins of Wonderland because of Redd's reign. So now, the group of what they call themselves "Alyssians" have to send Alyss through what is called the "Looking Glass Maze" so that Alyss can reach her full potential. I can make a text to text connection with this because in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry needs to go through a maze that will eventually lead him into a fight with Voldemort , and in The Looking Glass Wars, Alyss needs to go into the maze in order to reach her full potential and fight her murderous Aunt Redd.

  2. Great descriptions of the actions in your book. It sounds fantastic. A modern day "ALice!" Curious....who do you think is the hero in your novel?!?! DO you like this character and what does the author do to create this emotion? (Author's craft.)
    Glad you reached out tonight!

  3. Kiana that sounds like an interesting series.

A few days ago I read Rangers Apprentice #5 The Sorcerer Of The North and I would also recomnend The seriesIt is placed in medival times in a fictional world and only the first 2 books have fiction. The book starts with the series main charactor Will being a Ranger instead of a Rangers Apprentice. He find a dog slashed with a blade still alive he heals the dog and takes it to his new home at Seacliff his feif to look after. Not to long until a man called John Buttle comes to take the dog back in this sence there is alot of suspense because I dont know how Will will handle the situation. But he knocks John out and gives him to some Skandians that were going to raid Seacliff which he provided with a feast and food. He now has just been given a mission about suspected less than 1% chance sorcerery at Macindaw to the North. Leaving the cliffhanger, what will happen during Wills assignment?

  4. I LOVE Alyss, especially when she goes through the Looking Glass Maze and reaches her full potential. She gets really wise. The author describes her emotion by being really descriptive in her sorrows, love, and determination.

  5. Hello everyone, I'm reading Stargirl. I absolutely love this book. Its realistic fiction and a fabulous book for anyone. So far Stargirl has been on Hot Spot (Leo's t.v. show) and has messed up everything for everyone. She even messed up prom for Hillari Kimble although she didn't mean to. Stargirl is a very weird girl who plays the ukulele every day at lunch and cheers for the other team at basketball and football games. Although Stargirl is a very nice girl people pick on her for how she acts and dresses. I really can't believe someone would do such a mean thing!

  6. Hi, While I was reading My Greatest Ambition I made a great text to self connection. I could connect with Maurice because when I was younger I I used to just want to be an NBA basketball player, but now I'm thinking of many other jobs like an architect or even a writer! I also wanted to write about the decision that Maurice made at the end of the story. I would not choose to abandoned my dream job completely but I would still lay it off for a little. I thought that this book was okay, but it had a great meaning to it.

  7. Yeah, Lindsey, I read that book also and I felt REALLY bad for Stargirl. It's horrible how everyone picks on her.

  8. I just finished my book!!!!!! i absolutely LOVED the ending. I'm not gonna ruin the ending for you , though. But I will tell you that Redd is not dead yet, just in spirit form. She is like his because she and her top assassin, The Cat, jumped into something called the "Heart crystal" and, according to Bibwit, (the royal tutor), they have not died forever, but just taken the form of something else. I really wonder what they will come back as! I can make another " Harry Potter" connection because Voldemort attains an un-human life form but still comes back in book 4. I predict that Redd will come back in book two of this trilogy, Seeing Redd.

  10. Hi guys, I am reading Sent by Margret Peterson Haddix. It is about two kids that were brought out of 1483 into 2009, but now they were sent back. I can't really make any text connections but I really enjoy this series. I predict that Jonah and Katherine will actually change history by saving Chip and Alex from their evil uncle. I recommend this action filled mystery book for all of you guys. But remember this is the second book in the series (#1 is Found).

  11. Hi everyone I am still reading Rangers Apprentice #5. Will has gotten to a village a few miles south of Macindaw to pick up local gosip to help aid in his mission. He then goes to Macindaw bringing the dog with him. Everyone in Macindaw belives there is a sorcerer in a place called Grimsdell Wood. He goes there and sees lights moving in the trees and hears whispers and gets frightened. I can relate to this because this weekend I was on a campout with my Boy Scout troop and in the woods at dark it was pitch black and forbidding and I kept hearing and seeing things but I knew it was my imagination and ignored it.

  13. Hello classmates!
I am reading Skeliton Key by Anthony Horrowitz(#3). In the beggining Alex gets to be a ball boy in Wimbolton as long as he looks out for anything weird. I think he is so lucky to be a ball boy. I wished I could do that when I read it. Unless you count that I can't make any text connection. I predict Alex will find somebody evil and have to fight him. I still want to find out if Alex gets told the evil plan before he escapes. Again. I can't wait to see what happens .

  14. JOURNAL ENTRY WEEK OF 9/21/09 #1: :)

HELLOOOOO!!!! I just got finishes reading Tuck Everlasting for today and couldn't help but notice the western, country- like grammar. The author joins words together, and I guess that's a way to show voice, like "ya'll" or " y'know" . I think things like that can make a huge difference in how the setting is described to the reader. If the Tucks were fancy, wealthy urban people, they would probably speak more. . . refined?! I guess it doesn't make a HUGE difference, but it's kind- of important to know what kind of background the Tucks come from.

  15. Oh, and JF2, the evil uncle you describe in your entry reminds me of the evil aunt in my trilogy. What are more details about him? I would like to compare him to the evil aunt in my story. THANKKKSSSS!!!!!!

  16. Hey, Goofball.......
I love that you are noticing the author's word choice. As we know, authors do not make accidents!!!!! What mood or tone do you think the author was trying to create with her word choice? How would the book be different if these words were not used this way?

MG.....This sounds like an action packed thriller!!!!! What you like about books like this? He is such a popular author!

  17. Dear classmates,
I am reading Scat it is a mystery. I am wondering if Duane is really the person who kidnapped Mrs.Starch I'm guessing that he is because he said that she will get revenge. I am visualizing what Duane's dad looks like I imagine him to be smelly, ugly, and to put it in nice words a little plump. I have never before read a book by Carl Hiassen but he is a great author and I'm planning to read some of his other books like Hoot. I am positive that anyone would love this book. The cover is really girly but remember don't judge a book by its cover!

  18. I really like the tuck everlasting book. I really like how, like Kiana said, the Tucks have an older, western apperience. I also like how the auther makes the book seem more realistic. Like how Winnie says that it isn't some fantasy from a story when it is a story. I pre dict the man in the yellow suit will try to market the spring water but will somehow be stoped by Winnie and athe Tucks. I also think Winnie will drink the water in the end to be with Jesse. I'm surprisesd the book was this good, because when I was in second grade I started to read the book but I gave up on it. What are the odds?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh yeah! I agree with MG because i think Winnie is going to wait until she is seventeen and then be with Jesse. That would be a nice ending.

  20. Strage enough, Jesse asks Winnie to drink it when she is sixteen. I don't think she will drink it though. After eveerything she's heard and said I would be ashamed if she did. I can't wait to read more of the book.

  21. Hey guys, Just as I finished typing my last journal entry my computer glitched and I lost it all. So here it is again.

I know that we have all read Tuck Everlasting, but I am going to talk about that book. So far I really like the book. Can you imagine being in Winnie's place right now. Think about it. So imagine one day you ventured into your own wood to find a boy drinking from a hidden spring near a huge tree. He and his family then kidnap you and take you back to their house. You discover that they are gentle and kind hearted people who befriend you. You learn that the spring you saw the boy drink from is magical and it freezes you in time so you live forever. The boy and his family think it is a curse. At night when you are about to go to sleep the boy tells you that in seven years when you are his age, to drink from the so called fountain of youth so that you and him can get married and live together forever, when you just met him. Would you have been as brave as Winnie? I know that I wouldn't of been. Be honest. I can't wait to read the rest of the book. It's so exciting.

    Sincerly,
    Patrick Harlan

  22. Do you guys like my beast picture to the left of this text?

  23. Hello fellow classmates.
I found a text to self connection in the book Tuck Everlasting. I could combare the family of the Tucks to my own family. It really made me think about the story. I found lots of similarities and differences. For examble, our family has two boys (my brother and I) and two parents. We are all kind people. On the flip side of that, no one in my family (that I know of) drank from the Fountain of youth and is going to live forever. We do not own a horse and do not live near a lake. The list could go on for ever, but those are a few good examples.

I agree with Matt. It is kind of cool who the family has an older more western apperience. I also noticed that Jesse said to drink from the spring when she was 16. I also agree with Matt when he said that he didn't think Winnie will take Jesse up on his offer to marry him.

    Sincerly,
    Patrick Harlan

  25. Dear class, Sept. 28
I am really enjoying Tuck Everlasting. It is keeping me guessing all day. I predict that the man in the yellow suit will find the Tucks and send them to jail, then I think that the man in the yellow suit will come to the jail and tell them that he wants to market the spring and the Tucks will get mad. I think that the yellow suit man will try to market the spring because on the back cover it explains about a man trying to sell a spring for money. I also predict that Winnie will start to miss Jesse and escape back to marry him. This is a great action filled book, I'm looking forward to reading on.

    Sincerely, Justin F.

  26. Hello class,
In my book Sent Jonah and Katherine just got zapped back into 1483 to try to save Chip and Alex. Jonah and Katherine keep trying to tell Chip and Alex to save their selves by getting out of their tracers but they wont listen. Now they are still in their tracers trying to fight in a war! I can make a text to self connection with this, I used to have a friend who would not listen to what I would always try to tell him but he would never listen. Eventually I wasn't friends with him anymore...I wonder if Chip and Alex won't be friends with Jonah and Katherine anymore? I recommend this fabulous mystery book to all of you.

    Sincerely, Justin F.

  28. JORNAL ENTRY #2:

Hey everyone! Do you know how i talked about the evil aunt in my story? Well, if you were looking in to reading it, you ought know how this story isn't the most cheerful. 1st of all, Aunt Redd wants to kill Alyss so that she can be queen of Wonderland. Redd is truly evil, and she definitely makes this story all the more. . . I don't know how to explain it, but it would not be nearly the same without Redd because, let's face it, there would not be any danger or excitement. Sometimes, in books, they need that extra boost to make them all the more interesting.

  29. Hi everyone I started Percy Jackson and the Olympians series again because I like it so much. I read the Lightning Theif which is book 1. Pery Jackson has never had a normal life he gets kicked out of a different school ever year that are always linked to the happening of strange things (like when he strangled a snake in preschool). His Math teacher Mrs Dodds trys to kill him on a feild trip at the end of the school year when she turns into a harpie. I stopped reading when Percy and his mom go n a vacation in Montauk.

  30. I finished book #1 and now I just started book #2 The Sea of Monsters. When Percy gets to Camp Half-Blood with his friend Annabeth and his other friend from school. Campers are under attack by bronze bulls the size of elephants that breath fire and Percy rushes in to help I can make a tet to self connection because if my friends were in trouble I would try to help them immediatly.
