  1. Hello Everybody! In my book Seeing Redd right now, I'm in the part where Redd's making a comeback. Card soldiers are the first to find out. They were in the Everlasting Forest when an army of Redd's glass Eyes came and attacked. ( the card soldiers are on Redd's side, too, so I don't know why the glass Eyes attacked them.?) But anyway, the glass eyes attacked and killed one of the card soldiers. The card soldiers were at the old Alyssian Headquarters, and I don't know why they were there just yet in my book, but I would like to make a prediction why because I have a feeling it's gonna be a big part in the story. i predict that they ere there just to not be killed or disabled by the millinery. But after the glass eyes show up, they will probably team up with Redd there. Then they will be like the Allyssians and try to take the kingdom back. In the third book (which came out today and I'm extremely excited about!!!!!:):D) Alysss will kill Redd once and for all!

  2. Hey guys. I am reading behind the bedroom wall... again. I decided to read it again because I liked it so much the first time. I am only on page 20 so far and it is kind of sad how loved Hitler is. Everyone thinks that Hitler is a hero and they worship him. I think it is amazing how someone so evil can be hailed like a god. It is about a girl how discovers that her parents are housing Jews behind her bedroom wall. As you can imagine this was a bit of a shock. I can't wait to read farther into the book. I would recommend this book to anyone.

  3. I have not read much in my book behind the bedroom wall, but a have read enough to know what it is about. It takes the point of view of a little German girl. One of her friends is really harsh on the Jews and her other friend is only a little harsh on the Jews. She is more like the first friend, but not quite as serious.

She thinks that one of her friends is a "Jew lover" and she might turn her into Germany. This book takes place in World War II. The setting is very important to this story because if they were in America they would be against Germany. This book is a realistic fiction. I can't wait to read some more.

  4. Hi everyone I stoped reading the Percy Jachson and the Olympians series because I already read the series once. I've started reading a series again I didnt finish in 5th Grade "The Lord Of The Rings" series. I started book 2 "The Two Towers". I noticed the series was different from other fantasy series is that each book is missing two of the following beggining, middle, and end. Book 1 "The Fellowship Of The Ring" only had the beginning, and "The Two Towers" the book I am reading now is the middle, and "Return Of The King" is the end. I can make a Text-to-Text and Text-to-World because the way the series is written is unique from other books and the way authors usually write.

  5. Well, Kiryu, why didn't you want to read the first book? Anyway, are you liking "Twin Towers"?
I was wondering if you've seen the seen the movie, is the book anything like the movie?

  6. I'm doing my entry on Tuck Everlasting. I don't understand why Winnie and the Tucks would want to break out Mae rather than have her fake her death. I've been wondering, if the Tucks bust out Mae, which by the way I think wiil fail, will they be chased forever? I mean their secret will be revealed if they are never caught. They have to figure out a different way. But I'm not sure if they will.

  7. Dear class, Oct. 4
I'm really liking the end of Tuck Everlasting. I am wondering if Winnie Foster is actually going to drink the spring water when she is seven-teen years old? And if she does drink the spring water where will she find Jesse and the Tucks? They could be anywhere. If Winnie does happen to find the Tucks and marry Jesse, will they say by to th other three Tucks and leave to do all of their adventures. Or will they do all of their adventures with the Tucks near by. I am really looking forward to finishing this wonderful book!

  8. Hi guys, Oct. 4
I am doing my other journal entry on Sent the missing book 2 by Margret Peterson Haddix. Right now Chip and Alex's evil uncle decided to give his thrown back to Chip after the war was over. The only problem is that when the evil uncle dies in the war everyone claims to be the new king of England. This setting changes the story a lot because if it were in the U.S. there would not be any civilization yet. While Chip is trying to get his thrown back Jonah is holding him back trying to get him out of the war because he does not want to die, but Chip is willing to risk his life to re-gain his thrown. I can make a text to self connection with Jonah because I personally do not want me or my friend to die in a war. This is a great book that I recommend to all of you guys.

  9. Heeeeey!!! I, as you know, am reading seeing Redd. Right now king Nolan wants to take hold of the heart crystal and rule wonderland as well as borderland. but he doesn't want to stop there, either. he also wants to rule Earth, and then he will basically be the ruler of the universe. i think he wants to do this because he believes that men are more superior than women. Engraved in various places in Borderland are things like "Men can have as many wives as they want, and when they don't want them anymore, they can ship them off to wonderland.", which i think is extremely sexist. i mean, fronm a boy's perspective, do you think that's fair? I strongly hope not. :)

  10. Matt I did read the first book "The Fellowship Of The Ring"and Kiana your right that is sexist. In my book "The Two Towers" Aragorn a man, Legolas an elf, and Gimli a dwarf are searching for Merry and Pippen who were kidnapped by Orcs because they are hobbits. Merry and Pippen manage to escape from the Orcs and run into the forest of Fangorn. They meet an Ent named Treebeard who is friendly and takes them to his home. He tells them about Ents which are basicly walking trees and that he has never heard of a hobbit, and Merry and Pippen thought Ents were just a legend. I can make a Text-to-World connection because when people from different places and cultures find the other culture strange but they think they are normal and its the same the other way around.

  11. Hi peoples!! This is my 1st journal entry:

I read a lot of Seeing Redd this weekend and oh my is it getting good! More romance is happening. Hatter Madigan. The man who fought countless battles and won them all, has once loved. He was smitten with Weaver, a former member of the millenary who was killed by Redd's assassins. What he didn't know, and he found out by reading her diary/will to him, was that not soon before she died she gave birth to his daughter. Did I ever tell you about Homburg Molly? Welll, she is a halfer ( half civilian half Wonderlander) who was born in the Allyssian camp after Hatter went to Earth with Alyss. She is now 13 and Queen Alyss's royal bodyguard while Hatter takes some time off from his duties, a vacation. It turns out that she's his daughter.

  12. This is my first journal entry for the week of 10/12/09

I have decided to abandon the book Behind the Bedroom Wall. I made this choice because I had already read the book. I found it quite boring to read the same book twice. No offence to goofball who has read the harry potter series like 300 times.

I am now reading a kids version of The Iliad. I am not very far into the book, but so far I think I like it. It is about the gods meddling in people's lives. I can tell that there is going to be a huge conflict between the Greeks and Trojans. I am not sure who's side I should be on!

  13. Now my second entry is about the other love that is going on.

This one is really cool because it is between Dodge and Alyss. They have had chemistry since the series began, but now they are actually of age to marry. One night Alyss was looking for Dodge around the palace and he was in the memorial. Then he accompanied her in a tour around the rest of the palace. They started opening up to each other (Alyss kissed the four parallel scars on his cheek left by fighting the Cat) and when she looked up he was smiling. Dodge had to leave to check on one of the guardsmen and Alyss promised that she'd wait for him. Then Bibwit came and informed that Redd's glass eyes were invading Wondretropolis and Dodge put on a serious face again. Even though it didn't last long, I think it's going to happen again.

  14. I did not! I read it once!!!!

  15. This is my second Journal Entry for the week of 10/12/09

I have decided that I am cheering for the Greeks because they are led by Achilles and he his a fierce warrior. Also, I think that the Trojans are at fault for all of this because they stole another man's wife against her will. Although the Trojans committed a crime it was the gods that fooled them into doing it. I can tell that a great battle might be approaching.

This book is very good. I am only on page thirteen and I already know that it is going to be a great book. I would recommend it to anyone.

  16. Your book sounds a bit like Twilight

  17. This week I finished Skeleton Key. Like always Alex was told the secret plan before it happened.
This is becoming increasingly annoying. Although I'm still going to read the next book. I like Alex's personality in this book better than the other books because even though he's face to face with a trained killer who hates him but can't kill him, he isults him. I am kind of begining to feel bad for Alex. He always has an oppertunity to have fun but he ends up somehow getting involed in a fight.

  18. Hi guys this is my first journal for week 10-12-09. I am now reading my new biography...Steve Nash. The setting in this story affected the story because if he hadn't moved to Canada from Africa he probably would not be as good at basketball as he is now. I also just found out that Steve was drafted by the Suns and traded to Dallas, but after six years got traded back to the Suns. I really love sport biographies.

  19. My second journal is on Sent by Margret Peterson Haddix. As you all know I love it. I finally finished it and did not end the way I thought it would but it was a much better ending that kept me wanting to read even though there is no more pages left. I can't wait until the next book. I think the next book based on the end of this book is going to be about Jonah and Katherine going back into yhe past to help save a different missing child. I'm so excited!

  20. My first journal for the week of 10-18-09 is about my biography on Bill Gates. So far, even though I haven't read much I know that he was also really smart and liked computers when he was a kid. I also know that he was the youngest person to be a billionaire and was born in Seattle Washington. My book also states that if someone were to buy his company in 2000 they would have to pay an outstanding 50 billion dollars!!! I am very excited to write my biography on him!

  21. My second journal is also on my Bill Gates biography. I just read that he and his friend had to seperate (Bill to college at Harvard, friend Paul Allen to other college). This was frustrating for Bill because he was not able to work and do projects with Paul Allen. Later though they both got a job near Harvard to do computer programs. I personally think that Bill Gates had a very interesting life. I look forward to learning more about the ups and downs in his life.

  22. I'm doing my bio on Lance Armstong. In the part of the book I'm on he's just got told he has cancer. I thought it would be fun to do my report on Lance Armstong because I didn't know much about him. All I knew was that he had a deadly deasise and he was most likely to never bike again but he won the Tour De France 6 years in a row. I have read the first few chapters of my book and I've already learnd a lot of things Ididn't know. Did any of you know he used to be a competitive swimmer and a competitive juior triathelete before he decided he would be a biker? I do kind of feel bad for Lance. When he was growing up his mom devorced twice. He never kept a father.

  23. Hi everyone I am still reading "The Two Towers" the second book for the Lord of the Rings series. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli meet Gandalf who they thought was dead. They travel to Theoden the king of the people in the area who is Gandalfs friend. When they set off to go to Isengard the fortress of Sauramen an evil wizard to destroy it they end up fighting an army of Orcs in Helms Deep and win after a very good two chapters filled with suspense and excitment. When Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, Theoden and some of his men ride to Isengard to find it already "washed away" by the Ents who damed a river and sent the water into Isengard. Gandalf finds Sauramen in Orthanac his fortress inside Isengard and destroys his staff which holds his power. I found these few chapters a bit boring since the charactors just basicly talked to each other.

  24. Journal Entries for the week of 10/18/09

Good afternoon my fellow classmates. I am reading a children's version of the classic greek epic poem The Illiad. I honestly think that it is one of the best, most entertaining books I have ever read in my entire life. However it is not a biography. It is about the Greek army at war with the Trojans. It isn't really a fair battle because of the gods that have interfered with everything.

I predict that since this is a Greek story the Greeks will come out on top.

  25. Hello fellow classmates,
I am still reading The Iliad. I am really surprised how much I like this book. I remember when my brother was in 6th grade and he read it. He said he liked it, but I thought it sounded dumb. I was wrong. It is great (even though it is a "classic"!)

What is frustrating me during the book is that my favorite hero, Achilles, is protesting the Greek king by refusing to fight. I think it has made Achilles look like a wimp and has made the book less exciting.

The best part of the book is when the Greek hero Ajax and Hector fought one on one to the death. Although no one has won yet, I predict Hector will win.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action and excitement.

  26. Hello everyone I am still reading The Two Towers. One of Sauramans servents throws a glass ball down at Gandalf but misses. Pippen picks it up and Gandalf takes it saying it holds some sort of power inside. later when everyone goes to sleep it seems the glass ball holds some influence over Pippen because he steals it while Gandalf sleeps and meets Sauron the main villian of the series. It seems the ball can have people communicate over vast distances.

  27. Journal Entry 1:

There are a lot of differences in Tuck Everlasting the book and the movie. 1st of all, Winnie looks really old, like a teenager, when she was supposed to be playing the role of a 9 or 10 yr. old. Also, I imagined her house as a cute little cottage with a china cabinet and fancy wall paper and furniture, not this full- fledged manchine. I also have a question for you guys. Did girls Winnie's age really have to wear corsets back then? If they did, I would have hated to be around in that time. I've heard in movies that you can barely breathe in them! That would suck! To be pretty I wouldn't think you have to pay THAT big a price. It is just unfair! i don't think Mae would wear one, and Winnie didn't want to in the 1st place! I don't understand why her mom wants her to do things like that . . . just to be pretty? I would call THAT unsupportive.

  28. Journal Entry 2:

Now about the Tucks. 1st of all, their pond. Did anyone else imagine it waaaay smaller? i did. I thought it to be about the size if a swimming pool, not a water park! That's like a lake! It's truly beautiful, though. Now about their plan to get Mae out of jail. It was so much funnier than the book! I LOVED it! I bet the constable just about peed his pants when Jesse and Miles came back to life! He ran away like a little girl! I wish that ending was in the book. I wonder how the author would have described it, and why they couldn't do the plan from the book?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, the love in this book, BEAST, is not nearly as abrupt. It is half- hidden.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Your right goofball, the plan to get Mae out of jail was a lot better in the book than it was in the movie. I guess it would have been to complicated for the author to describe the two boys step back up after getting shot. I don't know about you guys but I thought the book was a lot better than the movie. I really wish that the whole movie was a flash back.

  31. As you all know I'm reading a biography on Bill Gates. Today I learned that right after his mom died his friend was diagnosed with cancer and stopped working for Microsoft. This slowed down the work of Bill Gates for a while. How do you think you would feel after something like that happened to you? I would be very upset and angry, but I would also feel sorry for Bill and his friend.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You are right Justin I would also be very upset and angry

  33. Thanksgiving week journal entry:

I finished the iliad last week! I loved how The fighting wasn't just two men at war. It was a book of love, war (of course), strategy, and stubbornness. I just have a few rhetorical questions: Was this war real? If so, how do we know about it today? Did Homer basically use this war to explain the gods?

Those are my questions, does anyone have answers?

    ReplyDelete
  34. 2nd thanksgiving journal entry:

i just started the Odyssey! I'm really enjoying it so far. haha. . I just realized that Odysseus is the main character and the book is called the odyssey. Do you think "ody" or "odyss" or "odyssey" means something in Greek? oooh, or did Homer plan to write the Odyssey and then make the character Odysseus? Did Homer make up the original cyclops? I've heard of it in other stories. I guess I just made a txt to txt connection.

    ReplyDelete
  35. To answer your question Kiana the Trojan war was a real war that occured. A German archaeologist called Heinrich Schliemann excavated and place called Hisarlik which was on a hill. He found Troy and treasures that were still there including Helens crown. Other archaeologist have excavated farther and now even alot of the wall is uncovered

    ReplyDelete
  36. I JUST FINISHED THE ODYSSEY THIS WEEKEND!!!!! I loved it sooo much, especially the part where Odysseus killed the Cyclops. Who would've known that a cyclops could be the son of a god! ????? Well, that part was weird.... I enjoyed when he finally got home, too, and how he reunited with his son, Telemachus. Ahh, there's nothing like reading about the bond between a father and son. The strategy I used to comprehend this book better than I usually do was to paint a picture in my mind. I could imagine the anger of the ocean, or the god Poseidon. This strategy also lured me into the book. I find this strategy extremely dandy and it is my favorite one to use.

  37. I STARTED THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK!!!!! This is a really good book so far, even though I'm just on pg. 20... I'm sure there are more diaries of kids' in WWII, but annes is extremely descriptive. So far, she already included love, stress, hopes, and worry. From the text you can tell that she was good friends with her sister and idolized her. She worried about her when she got called up. Anne explained how the felt when her 16 year old sister could possibly be called to a concentration camp, which was 1 of the reasons her family went into hiding. I have a text to life connection about this: My brother is 16 and if he was called in like this, we would go into hiding ASAP!!!!! I could not possibly bear him having to go and basically end his life in this way. I would write about it, too.
